Tips and Items to Help you Stay in Shape after Thanksgiving!

Did you overindulge at the Thanksgiving dinner table? Are you feeling stuff and sleepy? It's OK. Not all of us can resist the candied yams, macaroni and cheese, gravy over stuffing, biscuits and homemade pies. Thanksgiving dinner is the biggest meal of the holidays. My family is usually nibbling on leftovers and creating several meals from it after the big day that includes turkey sandwiches. But don't feel guilty about it. Instead, let's recover from it by getting back into our normal diet routine. Here are a few tips to do so:

  1. Drink plenty of Water. Water is an internal cleansing of our body. It transports nutrients to all cells and tissues of the body while eliminating toxic and noxious substances from our digestion system.
  2. Re-engage in your diet. After a heavy meal, you need to eat light for the next several days. Begin to plan meals that include raw fruits and lightly steamed vegetables. They provide antioxidants that  are high in potassium and serve as a diuretic to shed excess water.
  3. Exercise. After a heavy meal that is loaded in carbohydrates, people become sleepy and lethargic. In addition, turkey contains a natural chemical called tryptophan. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that builds certain proteins. The body uses tryptophan to make serotonin, a neurotransmitter in the brain that helps regulate sleep. It is always good after any meal to take a walk. Walking tones the muscles without stressing them. It begins to circulate the blood throughout the body that helps the digestion process without making upsetting your stomach while relieving the tightness of a full tummy.
